“I want what she has!” was one of the first things I heard from my students after listening to Reform Wellness founder Jackie present at St. Anthony's. One Reform Wellness lesson and my students were able to see very clearly that what the Reform leaders possessed was attainable for them too, even in the stress of their teenage lives.
My entire life I have struggled with extreme dieting, restrictive eating, and exercise as punishment. I wanted my life to be different this year. I had struggled to lose the baby weight after my second child despite the fact that I was eating “all the right things,” and working out religiously. I had attempted to talk to other professionals about it, but time after time I was told “You’re overweight because you eat bad.” I knew that maybe this was a small part of it, but something was off. I needed help outside of myself because no matter how good I ate or how hard I worked out, nothing helped. So, on I pressed to get to the answers…
Working with Jackie has been a joy. She provides me with constant encouragement and give me the “tough love” when necessary. Jackie is consistently available to answer questions along the way and provide inspiration to push through plateaus. She has a lovely sense of humor and is always looking to adjust with me to fit my needs for each time we connect. I can’t recommend Jackie enough! Working with her has literally been an answer to my prayers!
In the end, I realized that Jackie’s REFORM is a way of life. The invitation to physical and spiritual health is a daily “yes” to live in the way that God desires us to live. I have a grateful heart to Jackie for inviting me on this journey to REFORM. She has instilled in me a true hope that we do not have to settle in life, particularly when it comes to our health. God has created us to be Happy, Healthy, and Holy. This is possible for all of us. I am grateful for Jackie for being a true witness to the REFORM way of life.
Jackie’s words immediately resonated with our students. It was obvious that her message entirely corresponded to their experience of life. They were particularly attentive to her words about prayer. Because Jackie is such a dynamic presence - attractive, articulate, humorous - her encouragement to trust God moved the students to believe that such faith is possible
I loved working with Jackie and have benefited from the lifestyle changes she has implemented tremendously. I have been following specific breathing and meditation techniques for over 10 years and with Jackie's approach to wellness and lifestyle, I almost immediately saw a shift in the quality of my meditations.
From the beginning I instinctively knew Jackie was going to be someone who was going to shepherd me in the direction to where I wanted to go, to be, or better, to return to. Jackie's approach to getting my body back in gear was more holistic in nature, based on four principles: nutrition, sleep, stress management and movement.
Late last year I went in for my annual physical and was not happy with the results. I was 20 lbs heavier, had high cholesterol, high blood pleasure and a constant feeling of anxiety. I heard plenty of friends at my local CrossFit gym talk about the amazing work Jackie Mulligan does and decided to reach out. As a father of two, my health was more important to me than ever and I couldn't continue to slough through life like that.
Perhaps you have had the experience where in the midst of your career or vocation, some drastic and dramatic changes were made due to an overturn in leadership. Your world was turned upside down—relationships, expectations, career goals—and it affects everything in your life including your health. That was what 2017 brought for me.
Working with Jackie genuinely changed my life. Admittedly, I was skeptical about working with a nutritionist, as I believed that for my age I was about as healthy as can be in terms of my diet. After discussing my goals with Jackie, she designed a program that really was tailor-made for my needs and body-type.
I signed up to work with Jackie with the goal of optimizing my health and personalizing my healthy living. (I am originally from Australia if you are wondering what’s up with the spelling.) I thought I was doing a pretty good job all round, eating predominantly paleo, moving my body most days, and getting around 6.5 hours of solid sleep a night.
Our lives at St. Anthony Shelter can be a juggling act. Between the active apostolate of serving the homeless men and managing social and prayer times, our days as missionaries are busy. It is very easy to get bogged down with work or get stressed with all of the emotional and physical heaviness of the work.
