A Health Overhaul with Christ at the Center

Jackie and Bobby Angel have spoken and written on Catholic marriage, discernment, and Theology of the Body. They are regular video contributors on Ascension Presents. They are also the hosts of the podcast Conversations with Jackie and Bobby. Below, they share their experience with both Reform Online and Dig to the Roots.

Bobby: My wife Jackie and I have been blessed to complete both Reform Online and the Dig to the Roots courses, and we’ve both seen some major fruit from the experiences.

Jackie: Having a healthy gut is difficult. I’ve faced a number of health issues, including finding out I’ve got thyroid issues after our third miscarriage. Dig to the Roots helped me figure out what’s been going on within my body and take the necessary steps to move towards renewed health. Remembering to take my supplements was a challenge…I didn’t create an organizational chart like my nerdy husband did.

Bobby: It’s true. I made a chart. Anyway, God surprised me in the areas of my life that I was challenged to examine, particularly the Reform Wellness Pillars of Sleep and Space. Slowing down and being okay with rest means that I’ve been able to focus better on areas of work, writing, and prayer.  I also can’t believe that I actually completed a 60-day detox from gluten, dairy, and processed sugar!

Jackie: The individualized consultations with Dr. Bridget were worth the price of admission alone. To have a wellness program totally centered on Jesus Christ is amazing. And I lost 10 pounds!

Bobby: I also lost 15 pounds, not expecting that result at all. I feel better, more importantly. It’s hard to describe, but I feel like, before Reform, my “normal” was running on an 85% charged battery. But now I feel like I’ve recalibrated my whole system, and I’m able to be more present in the moment where God is meeting me.

Jackie: “Take care of your body as if you were going to live forever; and take care of your soul as if you were going to die tomorrow.” This quote attributed to St. Augustine really is how we desire to live all aspects of our lives. Reform’s been a welcome model of health and wellness integrated with the Catholic faith, and we feel blessed to be a part of the Reform community!
